The Tewantin R.S.S.I.L.A was formed on the 20th August 1920 by the late Harry Buchanan M.M and bar, Assistant State Secretary. The foundation officers of the Sub Branch were President: W.J.Ross, Vice President: H.J Johns, Secretary: W.Fielding and Treasurer: H.J Fielding.
The original RSL building was destroyed by fire in 1967, all records and memorabilia was destroyed. The Sub Branch was rebuilt in 1970 on the 50th anniversary and has gone from strength to strength and continues to grow today.
The Sub Branch provides a wide variety of information and services to veterans and their families including welfare advice/assistance and pension advocacy. Ceremonial services include ANZAC Day, Vietnam Veterans Day and Remembrance Day. The Sub Branch also provides Cemetery Maintenance, a memorabilia display and liaison with local schools and community groups.
